WebSiteStory 2 - Spring 2003
Participating Countries: Denmark, Lithuania, Norway, Portugal and Sweden
Introduction to Web Site Story
WSS is a model for creative writing and can be used both in the students’ mother tongue and in foreign language learning. The concept will make use of a feature in the TELSI platform, which allows the project coordinator to give editing rights to a particular on-line document to different users at different times.
Inter-cultural competence has become an important issue in foreign language learning and in order to stress that it is no longer enough to know what to say, but also to know how to put your utterances into a culturally appropriate context the "stories" will focus on intercultural issues.
One group (in Country A) is presented with the initial sentence of a "story" and is asked to complete the first chapter. After a certain deadline, Country A is denied access to the document and a new group (in Country B) is asked to continue the "story". Different "stories" can be under preparation in the same Internet environment at the same time, each group writing a chapter of each of the "stories" as the process evolves. The WebSiteStory model will be tested both in English and in multilingual activities involving the use of languages all participants can understand to a greater or lesser degree.
Five classes from five different countries are going to create five different stories together.
Introduction
Look at the painting and the close-up of the little girl. She is now an 80-year-old lady, and she has decided to write her autobiography. Her story begins at the scene on the beach.
The little girl is called Lise. She was born in 1905.
Her life became very dramatic due to the rapid development in Europe during the 20th century.

Chapter 1 (Sweden)
My name is Lise, and I was born in Denmark in 1905. My life story began on the famous Skagen beach. I remember that I was standing there watching the other children play in the water. They seemed to have a lot of fun. I would have done anything to be part of this, but I knew that I couldn’t . . .
I was thinking about my father who had lost his life on the sea. He was a
captain, and his boat shipwrecked somewhere on the Atlantic a stormy night. It
was a terrible loss for the family consisting of my mother, my little brother
and myself. I was only 6 years old, when he died, but I remembered him as a very
loving father, who used to play with my brother and me on the beach. After his
death I was not able to play on the beach anymore. It was too painful.
After six months my mother married a rich but not very nice man. I never really
liked him, and apparently he did not like us children either. But my mother did
not seem to care about that.
That day on the beach, I really wanted to play with the other children, but I
was still too sad to join them. I remember how I stood there in my beautiful
dress watching them. It took another year, before I became the happy little girl
that I once was again. My rescue was a nanny, who came to stay at our house. She
really cared about me and my brother, and she became my best friend.
Hints to continue the story:
The nanny's arrival.
The outbreak of World War 1
and the influence on the family.
Chapter 2 (Norway)
Dramatic events..
I remember the day she arrived like it was yesterday. This Spanish woman had the mildest smile and the softest voice. We got along from the very beginning. We found out that we both had lost someone we really cared about. The nanny’s husband was a captain like my father, and his boat also shipwrecked in 1911.
The nanny had a lot of stories to tell, it was much more fun being with her than being with the kids on my own age. Not to mention all the good food she cooked. Even if there were hardly any groceries to get hold of. She was like a magician in the kitchen. Due to the food sanctions that was effecting the whole continent during the war, nobody could really get hold of good food.
One day we got the most wonderful news we ever could imagine; my stepfather was
called for the war, because he was a German officer, and since Germany had lost
their Italian allied, they needed all the men they could get.
It was extremely hard for my mother to accept that he was leaving us, because she was still so in love with him, and she didn’t want to loose another husband.
For my brother and me it was a gift sent from heaven, now we could finally relax and be our selves.
After a couple of months we got a message that our stepfather had been killed in the trenches. It came like a shock to my mother and became insane. We had to put her in a mental hospital, which was really hard for us children. Our nanny got the costedy for us, because our mom was not able to take care of us.
Months went by and my mom’s condition got worse. So our nanny got access to the trustfund.
She told us about her children that she had left behind in Spain, because she was to poor to raise them. Now she got an opportunity to bring them to Denmark.
Finally the day was there when the children were going to arrive.
Suddenly the door opened and there I saw this girl that looked exactly like me . . .
Chapter 3 (Denmark)
It was like looking into a mirror, except that her skin was a little darker than mine. I was a bit frightened at first, but also curious. Was this only a coincidence or was there a relationship between us?
It was 2 years since World War One began and I was now eleven years old. In Denmark the war didn’t influence our everyday life.
One day we received a letter from the hospital that our mother’s condition was still getting worse and they told us she never could leave the hospital, but had to stay there the rest of her life. It was a very bad message for my brother and me, and we thanked God for having our lovely nanny with us. Now she became our mother.
As our nanny had brought her children to Denmark we were a big family now who had to live together.
I was very happy to get a sister and two elder brothers, but it was not easy. We didn’t speak the same language, it was especially hard for these three Spanish children to learn Danish. We all went to school two times a week and as we all spoke Danish they very quickly learnt a few words. The Danish weather was also a big change, they weren’t used to cold weather and snow.
As we were a big family there was a lot to do and we all had duties in the house. And one day our nanny’s daughter found a photo of our father while she was tidying up a cupboard in the living room. She got very surprised because the man in the picture looked exactly like her own father. It was the same man. Now that we had found out that our father was the same man it brought the this family that we were even closer connected.
In happy family there was time for fun and play. Nanny took us on excursions, sometimes we had picnic on the beach. We played on the beach all day long, and went for a swim in the sea too.
When it was winter with low temperatures and snow we had a really good time playing outside in the snow, played on the toboggan, skating on the ice at the village pond.
In 1925 I graduated as a student and I had to decide for my future. During my studies I had a great wish to help poor people. I decided to become a doctor, which was unusual for women at that time. When I had finished my training I saw a note in the newspaper. It was an article about humanitarian work in India where they asked for nurses and doctors. I applied for a job and very soon I found myself in India at a big hospital.
I loved my job at the hospital, helping poor people and receiving their thankfulness. After a couple of years at the hospital I met Mother Theresa. She was a missionary and was born in Albania in 1910, in 1927 she became a nun and was sent first to Ireland and then to Calcutta, where she taught in a girls’ school for nearly twenty years. After a short medical training, she and two other nuns took to the streets, caring for the sick and dying. She worked with the people living in the slums of Calcutta.
In Europe World War two had started, and I stayed in India to the end of the war in 1945.
After many horrifying years the war in Europe finally stopped. But there was now civil war in Korea. In 1950 the Danish passenger liner Jutlandia was converted into a hospital ship and sent to the East Asia and brought into actions in the Korean War. I had heard about the ship and its mission in East Asia, I was 45 years old and thought it was time for me to leave India. Few months later I entered the Danish hospital ship. A new phase of my life started, what I didn’t know was that my decision would turn my life upside down.
On Jutlandia I met Danish nurses and doctors, after all these years in foreign countries I had nearly forgotten my Danish language therefore it was a great pleasure for me to work with them. We worked close together in small groups and it was here I met John, a Danish doctor. He had lost his wife when the Germans occupied Denmark. They were both members of the Danish resistance movement and one night when they were doing sabotage on a factory she was killed by German soldiers. After the war John decided to try something different and volunteered as a doctor at Jutlandia.

Link to information about Jutlandia
Our friendship grew to more than a friendship, and when Jutlandia in 1953 left Korea John asked me to marry him.
On our way home I received a telegram which told me that my mother had died. In her will she left me a lot of money . . .
Chapter 4 (Portugal)
The trip took too much time but finally we arrived to Denmark. When I got out of the ship I felt sadness and strange in my country too many years had gone by! Everything seemed different.
I was looking for my brother and nanny but I only noticed a man with a tie; he was near a car and was making some signs.
I ignored him and called a taxi. When I got near the taxi with John; the man approached and told me that his name was Eric and that he was there to pick me up. My brother had sent him. He couldn’t go for he was working said Eric.
I got in the car with John. Eric told me that he was sorry for my mother’s death because he had lost his mum too. I thanked him and asked for nanny. He hesitated before answering my question nevertheless he told me the truth. He uttered that two weeks ago, she had an argument with my brother and got out of the house and hadn’t come back since then. I was shocked with this terrible news and shook John’s hand strongly.
Eric told me that nanny was very upset with the argument and returned to Spain. I started crying and asked about her children and especially for John, Nanny’s older son; Eric smiled and said that he was a doctor like me. I remembered him because my boyfriend had some physical similarities with John, the Nanny’s son.
I told him that it was a pity because I would like them to go to my marriage as I am going to marry in a couple of weeks.
Finally we arrived home and after two long hours waiting, my brother came in. We kissed and embraced each other for several minutes. We also cried immensely for our mother’s death. Then the time came to talk about our lives for many hours. He told me that he was a lawyer and that he had a girlfriend that already had a son from her previous marriage. He told me that he was very happy with the relationship.
Lastly, I asked him about nanny and he explained what had happened. He said that nanny was very upset because our mother didn’t leave her anything in her will. So that was the main reason for her departure. I was surprised !!!!!!
My brother added that our mother had left us a great amount of money and I decided to do a donation for a children institution in India besides buying a house for John and I live after our marriage.
One week passed . . .
The doorbell rang. I asked who it was. Suddenly the answer was nanny.
We hugged and cried together. Nanny got in and I called John. When she saw John, she was surprised and said:
- John . . . my son !!!
I was confused; my future husband was my brother!!!!!!!!!!!??? I didn’t believe in this tragic moment!
I ran out of the house and went crying in the garden . . . . .
Chapter 5 (Lithuania)
Everything around was so confusing and causing so much pain. It seemed that the world was upside down. All the things I believed in and dreamed of fell into ruins. I couldn’t believe life could play such a dirty trick on me. I wished I could run away from everything, hide from everyone, but I couldn’t, there was something stopping me, so I just sat down on a bench under an old cherry-tree, where I used to spend my time when I was a little child and wanted to be alone. This tree was like a person to me to whom I could tell everything and who wouldn’t hurt me . . .
Suddenly I felt
a hand on my shoulder. It was nanny. She was hushing me and asking to calm down.
I didn’t know if it was for her soft and pleasant voice or the warmth of her
hands that stopped me from crying, but somehow I felt better. The nanny said
that she knew what was going on in my head and asked to listen to what she had
to say. The woman explained that she had been married to another man called
Samuel, before she met my father. And John was their only son. However, one day
this husband left her alone and took the kid with him. She could still see her
son secretly, but Samuel would never let John live with his mom. Now I
understood everything. John wasn’t my brother. A smile returned back to my
face. It was probably the happiest moment in my life - all the problems were
washed away. Then nanny hugged me. I was crying again, but these tears were
different, the tears of happiness and joy . . .
I was sitting in my room. It was evening. Then came John. We were talking. I
said I was madly scared when I had thought that John was my brother. And now
when all misunderstandings ended I was so happy that this handsome and dear man
would become my husband. We decided to get married in two weeks’ time
. . .
The wedding was amazing. I was in a dazzling white dress and John wore a dark stylish suit. Couples were spinning around, singing, Eric was tacking around every guest with a tray full of drinks, my brother was totally drunk and his girlfriend, who hadn’t left him for the whole evening, was very much unpleased with such of behaviour of his. The good old nanny was on her feet during the whole party. She was commanding musicians, waiters and, of course, kitchen. After one dance John and I went to the garden for a little walk. I was so happy, I gave all my life and everything to others, and finally I deserved happiness for myself. All the people whom I loved were around me, and my greatest love was walking beside me… We were talking our heads off, we were planning our honeymoon.
On the honeymoon we went to the famous Skagen beach. And there we spent two unforgettable weeks. When we came back we decided to build a private medical clinic in India and help the poor. My account was rich with money inherited after my mother’s death, and it would be enough for everything in my life . . . . .
John wanted to have three children: two boys and a girl, and I completely agreed with him. We were very happy. It was a great pleasure to plan our mutual future. All our plans came true: we have a nice house near the Skagen beach, John is still working as a doctor and I am the president of the charity fund which helps Indian children.
This diary is dedicated to my children: Theresa, John and Anthony.
Introduction

Life in 150 years' time
Jean-Jaques and his cloned bother Jean-Marie live in The United States of Europe (USE) in 2150. USE has developed into a dictatorship.
Jean-Jacques is a member of a secret political union in opposition with the government and fighting for active citizenship.
Chapter 1 (Portugal)
The story that I want to tell you is the story of a men, named Jean-Jacques. He was twenty-eight years old; he was an active citizen that fought for ideas that he believed. He was very tired of his life, tired of fighting for a freedom that never came. His country was in the United States of Europe, and he was living in the year 2150, a year that was very important for his country.
Back then, people were very unhappy, living their lives in oppression, but I have to turn back in my narration and explain the reason why they were living in a dictatorship.
In the year 2003, started a war against the United States of America, a war that lasted for sixteen years, a war that collapsed the economics of all countries, which were separated back then. During the war the petrol ran out, the companies declared bankruptcy, it was a disaster.
In the USE people lived in a dictatorship, citizens didn’t have the right to participate in the political life, they just accepted the rules that were dictated by the government, all the acts of the citizens were controlled by a secret police, everything was submitted to the censure, the artists were limited in there creation, nothing could fetch the dictated rules by the government, nothing could wake up the seep minds of the citizens.
It is against all these that Jean-Jacques was fighting for. He refused to be mere pieces of the system; no one could silence him for he wanted to live in freedom and to have the power to decide about his existence.
United States of Europe won the war and one man named Anthony, claimed the country for himself. As a way to control the country, Anthony decided to clone everyone who was born and if a person tried to rebel against him, he replaced him or her.
Jean-Jacques had a cloned brother too, his name was Jean- Marie, and he lived with the other clones in a city named Kaunas, Jean-Jacques had a big plan, and the plan was to meet his cloned brother, and try to put an end to that government. His next step was to find his brother. People had told him that he was hidden . . . . .
Hints to continue the story:
Jean-Marie was arrested by the secret police
He was Homosexual
Anthony is disappointed with the clones
Jean-Marie and Jean-Jacques are free at last
Chapter 2 (Lithuania)
In the most
remote north eastern country there is a town named Kaunas.
Navarre Anthony, a single child of a cargo ship captain and tax inspector’s
family, was a really unexpected present of heavens for his parents. In those
times, when there was no need for children limit anymore because of deadly
mutations, caused by polluted air, water and food every family had as many
children as they wanted…
Being perfect tactician and politician, he managed to rally the split Europe and overcome last century’s chaos. But this peace and order came with the price of freedom. With blessing of people, so tired of endless disorder, he met almost no counter action taking over The House of Council. With army, rearranged into the police, public punishment and total control of economy were put to force because he was seeking his aim of better life. Nevertheless, messed up in measures, he became dictator who couldn’t stand different opinion and not obeying his perfect order. People seeing that the whole power was in the hands of Anthony were silent because they were afraid for their and their family lives. People were silenced. There were mysterious disappearing and murders. But after some riots the machine of propaganda was forced to use more convincing measures. The last measure was to replace unreliable men by well-trained clones. Every replicate gradually turned into law obeying citizen with no opposite thinking. It was a guaranteed measure, but very expensive. The clone of Jean-Jacques was the first try announced by mass media. But after an error in the intellect forming procedure the clone became gay and couldn’t be accepted. Jean-Marie was moved to remote nucleotides recycling facility near north-eastern border but after a craft crash he escaped with a small group of clones and they were rescued by members of the Kaunas resistance movement, called The Resistance.
The plane landed at Kaunas airport at 12 p.m., and Jean – Jacques stepped out and the first view of Kaunas didn’t impress him very much. He called a taxi but he didn’t know where to go, so he asked the driver to take him to the nearest hotel. During the trip along the town Jean – Jacques was very surprised he didn’t see any of Anthony’s monuments, statues or posters. He now realized how far was this beautiful city from Anthony’s sick mind. The taxi stopped near the Neris hotel after 30 minutes. In a few hours’ rest Jean - Jacques went into the center of the city called Avenue of Liberty. People usually get relaxed and entertained in this area. Here every building was newly restored. In the middle of this Avenue there are a lot of trees. There are no beggars, on every corner of this place and it is clean and tidy. People smiled to Jean – Jacques and he didn’t see pain or fear in their faces. In a few hours Jean – Jacques reached the oldest part of Kaunas called Old town. Jean – Jacques was much impressed, this part of town was totally restored.
After all these years of fighting Jean – Jacques finally found peace and joy in his heart. He remembered his home and suddenly he remembered, Jean – Marie, his brother. Of course he had to find his brother. He was somewhere in Kaunas – the city which has seen many ups and downs, but has stayed a place for forces of resistance. Jean – Jacques felt that somewhere in the city he will find help. He thought that Jean – Marie could be in any police station or prison. So he started in the nearest police station, but unfortunately there was no sign of Jean – Marie. Jean - Jacques has looked in every police station with no result. In distress he sat down and thought deeply. He remembered that someone told him about the place named IX-Fort, which was made a prison.
Kaunas' darkest side is IX-Fort, one of a series of forts built by the Russians in the beginning of the 20 th century for military purposes was later used by the Nazis as a murder factory during World War II. Located in Kaunas' northwest outskirts, the fort was ideal place for holding captives. Dictator Anthony was advised to use this remote place for establishing headquarters of the secret police and the prison. Inside, primitive bedding remains firmly behind double meshed bars covering the windows of the cells. In addition to the communal cells was the "Health Room," a 3-meter by 1-meter hole beneath a stairwell, and the "Wet Room," a fairly spacious but dank chamber of concrete without a crack of light. This was best suitable for Anthony’s style.
Suddenly one arrestee in the station asked Jean – Jacques his name and told
him that he knew one girl who could take him to his brother and gave her picture
to him. Now Jean – Jacques had to look for a girl, who could take him to his
cloned brother.
Jean-Jacques was sitting in restaurant “Metropolis” and having his diner. An
extremely beautiful woman (lady in red) entered the restaurant, and sat down at
the next table. Jean-Jacques looked to her and smiled. She smiled back to him.
And then suddenly he realized that she was the girl from the photo, the prisoner
gave to him. Jean-Jacques invited her to join his table. They started to talk.
The girl’s name was Birute, she was a member of the resistance organization.
They were talking about Anthony’s ruling, problems of people and about this
beautiful town. They were talking and drinking tea for about two hours.
Jean-Jacques fell in love with the beautiful girl sitting in front of him at
first sight.
After the dinner Birute stood up to leave and thanked for having a good time with Jean – Jacques. Suddenly a waiter came and asked Jean – Jacques to answer the phone. When he came back Birute was gone and there was only her cigarette lighter on the table. He took this lighter and saw something written: “Meet me in an old house near the Kaunas Marios harbour at 9 p.m. today. Come alone”. Confused he returned to the hotel and decided to take a nap, but this message wouldn’t leave his mind.
The harbour was not very far, so he thought that it would be great to have some exercise and walk on foot. It was a dark autumn evening and the creepy sound of a wind in the trees made him feel a little scared. But curiosity made him to go on…
Suddenly Jean – Jacques saw a shadow running towards the house, so he started moving faster. His breathing became deeper and deeper, the heart was beating stronger and stronger. Jean – Jacques was feeling like a bomb that could explode any second. Suddenly . . .
Chapter 3 (Sweden)
Suddenly the lady in red appeared from nowhere. She told me to hurry up because we were being followed. After several minutes of running through the streets of Kaunas we arrived at her appartment. Birute told me to sit down in an old sofa while she went into the kitchen. When she finally came back she was carrying refreshments. She put them down on the table and went towards a book case and reached for a photograph album containing some photos of her and my brother. When I asked her where she got the pictures from she answered: When your brother and the other clones escaped, I volunteered to be their contact person and to help them hide. During this time your brother and I became really good friends and now I know where he lives. I can´t take you there because it is very dangerous, but I can give his latest address and it is Inaagatan 424 33 in Gothenburg in Sweden.
Hint to continue the
story:
Who knows if he is still there?
Chapter 4 (Norway)
I thanked Birute for the information and the rerfreshments. I sat there quietly all wrapped up in my own thougts for a while. I left Birute shortly after with a special energy and such a powerful need to find my brother.
The next day he packed his few belongings and took off with his super air shuttle. It took him no more than twenty minutes to get to Sweden, but to find the exact address was a bigger task. His navigation system refused to locate the address, that meant only one thing; the address did not exist in Sweden. He checked out the possibilities for the address being in another country. Right away the navigation system came up with another alternative, which was Inaagatan 424 33 Norway. It didn't take Jacques many minutes to get to the neighbour country Norway. Immediately he saw that he arrived to an old part of the city. He saw very old constructed buildings. There were 3 or 4 thousand round shaped houses which was typical in a period for about hundred years ago. The only thing which created a difference was the house numbers. Jean Jacques had now an intense feeling of excitement on his way into the calling system that told there was somebody outside.
Jean Marie sat into the largest round room. His big screen showed him latest news. Suddenly the news was interrupted by the calling system. It told and showed him on the screen that it was himself who was standing there outside.
Jean Marie felt ice cold inside . . .
Chapter 5 (Denmark)
Jean-Marie felt icecold inside... it was like looking in a mirror. He was in shock, but he went out in the rain to meet his brother. He knew that if he touched his shoulder, he might vanish into thin air.
Jean-Marie and
Jean-Jaques went into the largest round room in the house.
As they had never met each other before, they had a lot to discuss about their
former life, and what their plans could be for their future life. They both knew
about Anthony and his dictatorship. Now they had to make plans for destroying
him. As all people were cloned, the dictator might have a cloned brother too.
They had to connect both resistance movement groups. Their mission was to find Anthony’s cloned brother with help of the navigation system, so that he could help them to destroy Anthony. After they had put the data into the system, the result showed that the dictator clone lived in Denmark. The system told that he lived in Aarhus, a Danish city in Jutland. Jean-Marie and Jean-Jaques decided to go to Aarhus to catch the clone.
The resistance movement had members who in their former lives made a name for
themselves in some way. Famous people with special characters were cloned and
used for missions in the resistance movement, people who had lived in the 20th
century and which nobody knew. Names like Bill Gates, Al Capone, Martin Luther
King, John Wayne, Winston Churchill, Margaret Thatcher and Nelson Mandela were
some of the members.
After a short meeting John Wayne, Margaret Thatcher, Winston Churchill and Bill Gates had been chosen to go to Kaunas to catch the dictator and bring him to Denmark.
They landed in their spacecraft in Kaunas. Bill Gates used a special code on the computer, which made the spacecraft invisible. When they went to the palace where the dictator Anthony lived, it was closely guarded. They asked the guard to see Anthony, and said they had a very important message from a person, who wanted to meet him. After some hours they finally got permission to meet the dictator.
Anthony was distrustful, who were these strange old people and what did they do in his palace? He realized he had fallen into a trap. He tried to escape, but these three old people were too sly. John Wayne threw his lasso and caught the dictator. Margaret Thatcher knocked him on his head with a brick, which she had stolen from Number10 Downing Street as a souvenir, when she was Prime Minister. Winston Churchill, who always was smoking a cigar, took a deep suck and blew a big cloud of smoke in his face. The dictator fell into a coma.
The next step was to get the dictator out of the palace, without anybody finding out what was going on. Bill Gates switched off all computers and electric mechanism in the building. Nothing could stop them now. They handcuffed the dictator, and made sure he was still in coma. Because all lights were switched off, they could easily get him into the spacecraft. With help from Bill Gates and his computer navigation system, they quickly went out of the palace and left Kaunas in the spacecraft.
While he was in
coma they injected him with a microchip, which changed his mind positively.
The moment the spaceship landed Jean-Marie and Jean-Jaques felt enormous warmth
in their hearts, they knew that the chip was activated and now effected all
other clones, so that they could live like normal happy twin brothers
Now there’s happiness and peace on earth, until a new problem arises.

Miguel meets Tina in Setúbal. She is on vacation. Afterwards they exchange e-mails and he is invited to come to Denmark ....
Chapter 1 (Denmark)
Tina was late. She got up late, and she’d just been rushing through the day. Everything had to be perfect so Miguel could feel welcome in Denmark. She had used all day, cleaning and making her small flat a very nice place to be in.
Nothing worked for her today, maybe it was because she was so excited about finally meeting Miguel. Miguel was a young man from Setúbal in Portugal, who she had met during her summer vacation last year.
She had used almost one and a half-hour to fresh up and make herself look beautiful, so that she was ready to meet Miguel at the airport this afternoon. Now she was ready to get the taxi she was waiting for. It felt like ages.
She was looking out of her small window, out at the people in the rain. There weren’t many, but those who were brave enough to go out, were running to get inside and away from the rain. Soon she was one of those in the rain, getting all wet.
Suddenly she heard the horn of the taxi, she got up quickly, and walked outside towards the taxi, holding an umbrella in her left hand and a purse in the right.
She got into the cab. She loved the sound of the rain on the window, it reminded her of the old romantic movies, she loved so much.
The cab driver was an old man, he could have been her father.
Tina told him that she was going to the airport, to meet a man from Setúbal in Portugal.
She was so excited now, and she could feel all the butterflies in her stomach. Though it had been almost a year since she met him, it felt like yesterday.
At the airport,
everything looked busy as usual. There were many tourists.
She found a screen where she could see if the flight was delayed, which it wasn’t.
But there was time enough for a cup of coffee and a cigarette.
She still remembered the summer in Setúbal, where she met him. It was in a small restaurant, where Miguel had a summer job as a waiter. Tina sat with her long fair hair falling in soft curls, looking at the doves on Setúbal Square. Tina and her girlfriend had ordered the today’s special, they had asked Miguel what it was, but he wouldn’t say, only that it tasted very good and it was a Portuguese speciality.
It was their first day in Portugal. After dinner they wanted to go dancing, but they didn’t know where to go, so they asked the waiter Miguel. He suggested them to go to a very nice place where he used to go himself. He offered to pick them up later when he had finished his job, because the disco could be hard to find.
He picked them up at 11 o’clock, in an old blue car. Tina remembered that she thought he looked very different and quite nice. Tina and Miguel danced most of the night and the morning too. When he drove her home, he kissed her goodbye, and they arranged to meet again.
Before she went home to Denmark they exchanged e-mail addresses, and they promised to write each other. It was the best vacation ever she thought.
Now he was
coming to Denmark to visit her, and she had the whole week planned. Tina thought
Miguel would like to go to “Tivoli”, and of course he had to see “The
Little Mermaid”. But first of all she would take him to meet her parents. A
visit she was quite exited about, because she had told her parents so much about
him. After all he was Portuguese and five years older than her, but they had to
accept that he was studying to become a doctor, he only worked as a waiter in
the summer to earn money for his studies.
As she was standing in the airport she wondered if he had changed, because a
year is a long time, even though they had written to each other. While she was
sitting in her own thoughts, she felt a touch on her shoulder. She turned around
and there he was, with a big bunch of flowers.
Hints to continue the story:
He had really changed a lot since last summer . . .
He is a non-smoker
Sightseeing in Copenhagen and visiting her family
Conflicts
She has a big surprise for him
Chapter 2 (Portugal)
He had really changed a lot since last summer. They stayed a lot of time in silence looking to each other, without knowing what to say. She thanked the flowers.
Finally he asked her to put out the cigarette and kissed her on the cheek. As she was looking at him speechless she noticed that he was fat and a bit bold. Well a year had passed so perhaps it was normal.
They took a cab and talked about what they had done since their last meeting in Portugal. Finally he asked her on which hotel she had made a reservation for him. She surprised him and said that he wouldn't go to the hotel because she had a place for him in her house and that a surprise was waiting for him. Miguel told her that he didn’t want to bother her and accepted to go to lunch in her place.
When they arrived home, Miguel was surprised due to the warm welcome that he was awarded. Tina presented Miguel to her family. They gathered around the table for lunch, Tina’s parents wanted to know more about his life and his country and they asked some questions, speaking during all lunch and having a delicious Danish specialty.
During the evening, Tina and Miguel went for a walk in the city and she showed him beautiful places in Copenhagen. A few hours later, they went home. It was time for dinner, the bell rang and Tina asked Miguel if he didn’t mind to open the door because she was cooking.
As son as Miguel opened the door he saw a beautiful blonde girl with blue shining eyes. It was Jennifer, Tina’s best friend. She introduced Jennifer to Miguel and invited Jennifer for dinner. At dinner, Jennifer and Miguel looked into each other eye, as they had known each other ages ago.
Later on Jennifer invited them to go to have a drink in a bar. Tina accepted the invitation. However she couldn’t go with them right away because she had to stop by a shop. So she told them to go ahead. As long as they walked to the bar they talked and talked and talked. They were fascinated with each other. Jennifer was a doctor and he was trying to become one too. So they had much in common.
They arrived to the bar and asked for a drink, a romantic music began and they went dancing very close to each other. When suddenly he gave her a long kiss. Tina came in at that moment and saw the kiss. She was very surprised and went out the bar very disturbed, when she crosses the street; a car goes towards her . . .
Chapter 3 (Lithuania)
The last thing Tina heard was the squeak of tires. She felt a powerful hit and the whole world started spinning around. Her face touched cold and wet asphalt. Tina was lying in the middle of the street. She couldn’t hear anything, her eyes were closed, but she felt that her face was bleeding and there was a strong pain in her elbow. She wanted to stand up but she couldn’t. Finally everything turned dark and she lost consciousness.
The first thing that Tina felt was when somebody was squeezing her hand. She opened her eyes to see who was doing this, but there was no one around. Tina’s left hand was in a bandage. She looked around and realized that she was in hospital, in a private ward. In the right corner of the ward there was a mirror and to the left, next to Tina’s bed, there was a small table with a vase on it. Inside this vase there was a pretty red rose. Tina was looking at the rose for several minutes and the flower did remind her of somebody, that somebody was Miguel. She got up and went to the mirror. Her face was scratched but in her eyes there was furry. There was no pain, no moaning, just pure anger. She was betrayed, but now she will make them pay.
In the bar Jennifer and Miguel were kissing and dancing for nearly half an hour,
till they noticed that Tina wasn’t yet at disco. So they decided to go back to
Tina’s house and find out what had happened to her.
They went to Tina’s house and when found nobody there, Miguel and Jennifer couldn’t control themselves. Miguel felt tenderness of Jennifer’s lips, her smooth skin and he heard her heavy breathing. He touched her so that shiver went up and down her body. She held her breath and with pleasure waited for this to continue… He kissed her from her eyes down to her feet, and there was no place on her body where he hadn’t kissed. Their bodies were hot and passionate. With his hand he caressed her beautiful waist, with the finger tips he was running thought her back and gently patting her neck. She felt passion all over the places where he touched her. Jennifer would have liked this moment to continue forever if she were able to do it. She was in flame, her lips were shivering with his kissing, she was breathing deeper and deeper and she couldn’t wait any more. He came into her step by step, gently and slowly, decisively wriggling deep. He felt her heat and excitement, her silent surrender. Their bodies were sweating and burning with passion, sensing oncoming orgasm. She nestled up to him. They saw nothing around, heard nothing and they just took luxury of those heavenly feelings. He felt a spontaneous twitch in her and he knew that she was in the seventh sky as well... After a rippling wave of nirvana he gently cuddled and kissed her. Her rapid pulse was now slowly going back to norm. They took a shower. A stream of water refreshed their bodies and washed the salt of sweat. He was kissing her breast, arms and stomach. His hands simply slid down her milk-white soft skin. Jennifer felt in flame again. The stream of water was like music to them and they were living in one rhythm, their hearts were beating in one pulse. They were in bliss. She was vibrating with pleasure. Her nipples got so big they were never before. She clenched her teeth, so she wouldn’t scream in ecstasy. Tears were running down her face, but Miguel couldn’t see that, because the water was washing everything away… They were drying each other with towels and that unusual action was turning them again…They couldn’t control themselves, totally in desire. They were so high they had never been before. They went to bed. The feeling continued till their bodies fell asleep lying tired side by side.
When Tina came out of a hospital she went straight home.
There she found Miguel and Jennifer lying in her bed. Astonished she asked Miguel:
- Why are you in my bed, why are you in my home anyway?!?
He said that he hadn't anywhere to go, and he took Jennifer with him and she had nothing against. Embarrassed Miguel started asking:
- Tina, how are you feeling, where have you been?
- She kept silent.
- Tina, can you speak?
- I have nothing to say to you!
- Why? Have I done something wrong?
- Yes, you have! You and Jennifer…
- Oh, it’s all about that? I didn’t know that you saw us. I can explain everything…
- You’ve have seduced my best friend, haven’t you?
- It was mutual. I’m sorry if that hurts you, but I think it is love!
- LOVE? What nonsense! Every meeting with a blonde you call love?
- I don’t know what are you talking about, but we are getting married.
- What? You…You…
Chapter 4 (Sweden)
Jennifer! How could you?
- It wasn´t my fault! You can´t help falling in love! I´m really sorry that it has happened to you!
- Sorry?! That is the last thing you should be! Get out of here! Both of you. I don´t care where you go or what you do, as long as I never see you again!
I almost got killed because of you two!
Now Tina was very upset. Her voice echoed between her red bed room walls. She stood looking at Miguel, at his black hair and big brown eyes. His look was sad and upset, but she didn´t mind. How could she ever fall for this guy? She wished she could turn back time and forget all about it.
Suddenly she heard a voice from nowhere. Somebody was calling her name. Slowly she opened her eyes. The sunlight was shining through the window and right into her face. After a while she saw a nurse standing in front of her.
- How are you feeling today, Tina? There are some friends of yours waiting in the hall. Is it okey to let them in, because they are very anxious to meet you.
Tina managed to nod a little to answer her.
After a few seconds the door opened and a black haired guy and a blonde girl entered. When Tina saw them the whole scenario flashed by: the meeting at the airport, dinner with her parents, the sight of Jennifer and Miguel kissing on the dance floor and a blue car hitting her. Now she was lying here with the people she hated most of all, by her bedside. Didn´t the nurse say her friends? How could they call themselves friends after what had happened?
She was still very upset after her dream. Just to make sure it was all a dream she asked them: - Are you going to marry now?
By the question Jennifer and Miguel smiled embarrassed with screwed up eyes at each other.
No, Jennifer replied, of course not! I don´t know what ever can have got into me? I´m so sorry Tina!
Chapter 5 (Norway)
Tina is tired and comfused and tells them to leave.
Jennifer and Miguel respect what Tina sais, and leave imideately.
Tina dozed off as soon as they left, but wakes up in a few minutes and finds Miguel sitting on the chair next to her bed with flowers in his hand. The minute Miguel sees that she opens her eyes, he leans over her with the flowers and tries to kiss her. She looks at him and asks him why he is still there, and shouts at him that he has to leave right away.
Miguel runs out very comfused and emotional. He hurried to find his rental in the parking place. Suddenly he sees a big car com against him and everything gets black.
After visiting Tina at the hospital Miguel took the elevator down to the reseption. To his suprise he sees his twin brother Rafael lying on a stretcher with blood streaming down his neck, and in his eyes there is an expression of great pain for more than one reason.
Rafael was later found in a mental institution were he spent the rest of his life screaming Jennifer`s name and banging his head against the window of freedom. The tears of frustration runs down his face. He looks into the night and named a star after the love of his life "Jennifer" this way he could see her every night.

From newspaper article: 50 people found on a desert island
The passengers had been on board a luxury liner which collided with a hitherto
unknown underwater rock more than a year ago 550 nautical miles east of Tahiti.
All passengers on board the ship were believed to have died since they had not
been able to communicate with the outside world.
On board the luxury liner were amongst the survivors, Mary and John Smith, who went on this voyage to celebrate their 25th anniversary. This is the story they told to our newspaper:
Your task is to write their story.
Chapter 1 (Norway)
We embarked the
s/s Midnight star on the 4th of July 2000. We sailed out of Miami harbour early
in the afternoon that day. After we had settled in our beautiful cabin, we
decided to go for a stroll on deck. We watched the beginning of the sunset and
started to reminisce upon our happy years of marriage. We were thinking about
how lucky we were who had stayed together for so long, and hoping for many happy
decades together in the future.
We heard the dinner bell so we decided to go down to have our dinner. The
headwaiter showed us to our table with an ocean view. Right on queue another
waiter arrived with two glasses of champagne. As we made a toast for our future
we suddenly heard a bang.
…a big crash shook the boat. We all got a shock and wondered what was
happening.
Plates and glasses were flying around everywhere in the dining room. The impact
of the crash was so devastating that even the glass windows cracked. Then the
sirens started whaling. The captain spoke to us loudly on the speakers, ordering
us to calm down and not panic. We found it impossible to stay calm, and panicked
out towards the deck. On the way out we saw the fear in the other passenger’s
eyes, an indescribably painful sight.
Suddenly we felt the ship starting to sink, and all we could think about was to get out of the ship. We continued running without paying attention to the information the captain tried to give us. When we saw the lifeboats falling off the ship and into the water, we saw no other way out than to jump into the sea…
The late night hours brought with them a storm. We could hear people screaming for help and drowning all around the cruise ship as it went down. We clinched to the lifeboat, struggling to get into the boat.
Two of the strongest men in our surviving group went first into the boat, and started to pull the rest of the people out of the water.
We spent the whole night shivering and trying to keep warm. In the sunrise we saw an island not far away. We used our last strength to get ashore. When we arrived we passed out on the beach totally exhausted.
Hints to continue the
story:
How they managed to survive, got food and water and built shelters.
Shark attack?
poisoned snakes?
cannibals?
Chapter 2 (Denmark)
The next thing I remembered was the water washing over my ankles. First I couldn’t see anything for the sun because it was so hot. I realized that we were at an exotic place. I always wanted to go to a place like this, but of course during other circumstances.
John and I soon
took charge of collecting firewood and making a camp, and we organised a group
to find some things that were eatable on the island. Luckily we found a small
river and made some small containers so that we were able to carry water back to
the camp. We made some different baskets out of palm leaves, although they weren’t
entirely waterproof, we managed to carry the baskets with only a 1/3 wasted. Now
we had solved the problem. Back in the camp where they had now found some
wreckage from the s/s Midnight Star. The ones that were set on making a campfire
had indeed made a fire. Now we just had to find some food.
Some of the men started to build places where we could sleep without getting
wet. John volunteered, because he once was a Boy Scout and later on a soldier. A
group of 8 men came together and it didn’t take long until John was the man
who organised the work. Some of the men including George the chef from the ship,
who had a very big knife, collected branches for the huts. And some of them
looked for something to use for ropes. John and another man called Bill who
worked as a gravedigger started to dig some holes for the hut. After a few hours
they had dug 4 holes and collected enough branches and liana to make some ropes.
They took a break to get something to drink, and John made a drawing in the sand
so everybody knew what to do. Now everybody could help building the huts. And it
didn’t take long until they had built all the huts. The roof was made of
bamboo and the bottom made of soft palm leaves they could sleep on.
Some wreckage was washed ashore on the beach. It was a box that was locked and there was no key. We broke it up and found many useful things for wounded people – medicine – and all sort of things from the doctor’s surgery and including three bottles of cognac, which pleased many men in the group. Of course much of the contents was useful for the wounded people, and all the time a person was wounded – by building shelters, making fires, exploring the island, so the box was a gift from heaven.
We also had to face that some of the drowned bodies washed ashore and it was a dreadful sight, but someone had to bury the corpses. We took turns in burying, and among the survivors there was a priest who took hand of the religious part.
Ten volunteers started to explore the island.
It seemed to be a small island, so they went into the bushes. We wanted to see if there were any people living on the island, if so, maybe they could help us. The group had now been away for a couple of hours, but it seemed to be a very long day. Maybe I should point out, that they all were used to living in big cities and therefor had to challenge their skills in nature. All the new impressions had overwhelmed them, and nobody had thought of what way they came from. They all started to get nervous, because the sun was setting, so they all began to sing; “I won’t let the sun go down on me. I won’t let the sun go down”. Suddenly they could hear something in the bushes, and a dark face peeped out. Before they knew of it, they were surrounded by cannibals who, were dancing around them. They all got very frightened and stopped singing.
Chapter 3 (Portugal)
After all, they didn’t seem cannibals. They were dancing and dancing around them because they were welcoming the group. They seemed natives, their skins were dark and their eyes were black, like the night sky. Suddenly they stopped… The group didn’t know what to do. So one amazing think happened, they smiled… A native woman started walking and stopped in front of a young man named Louis. He was hypnotised and fascinated by her beauty. She had long hair and looked like a wild cat, for Louis, the youngest of the ten volunteers; it was love at first site. She touched his hair for it had a very strange colour,it looked like the sun, and his eyes were blue like the ocean.
The group was frightened they didn’t move a muscle, when a native man, an old man called the young girl, she looked down and turned back to the rest of them, and the next think they disappeared, vanished from the face of the earth.
They felt that they were dreaming, the episode didn’t seem real. They started walking in silence, trying not to think a lot what had just happened.
As it was dark and they didn’t know their way back to join their friends,
they made a bonfire and started talking about what they should tell the others. They didn’t have an explanation. The natives looked friendly but they didn’t talk to them. The group didn’t have an answer. They were arguing to each other. They were so afraid that didn’t ask about their names, culture or language.
In the other part of the island, John, his wife Rose and the others were very nervous, the group was taking too long, it was getting dark. They couldn’t go and try to find the others because they didn’t know were they were.
In the
following morning, the group came. Rose ran towards them asking questions, but
john calmed her. They started talking about the island, they told them about a
rock mountain, and where they could see the whole island. This mountain was
surrounded by a lot of fruit trees. The group shouldn’t worry for they would
never be hungry as long they stayed in the island. The volunteers added that
near the mountain there was a beautiful waterfall however they advised that they
should be careful about the snakes for they might be poisonous.
They were very tired, and Rose urged them to sleep and continue their
description later on.
Nevertheless there was one castaway, Louis, that couldn’t sleep, all he did,
was thinking about the native girl, the way she looked at him, he just couldn’t
sleep.
On the other hand the native girl couldn’t sleep either. The reasons were a bit different, her father (the old man) was upset with her; she was engaged to be married, and had touched another men. This attitude was unbearable. No wonder her father was mad!!! But who were that people? And what were they doing in the island? Maybe it was the gold… A few years ago a group of people came there for the gold, and they were very bad, but these people seemed different, she felt that. So she decided to talk to her brother and try to find the group that they had met.
Rose couldn’t stop thinking about the volunteers group for she knew that something had happened in the previous day. They were very secretive. Deep down Rose felt the danger! She promised that she would find out as soon as they woke up. Meanwhile a snake bit Rose while she was cooking lunch . . .
Chapter 4 (Lithuania)
People heard somebody screaming awfully from the camp side. It happened so unexpectedly that for a while they were taken aback. When they realized that they could be in trouble, they decided to check up what had happened. They got to the camp and they saw a terrible view – Rosa was laying on the grass, scum flowing from her mouth. At this moment they noticed a very sly snake, which scampered to the proximate bushes. Obviously the snake was poisonous because Rose was getting worse and worse.
Those savages
where real cannibals. The old man, the shaman of the tribe, called everybody to
convocation. They had to decide how they should capture survivors’ attention,
secondly, how they would set a trap. One young man, who was going to marry the
heir princess to the throne, said that they had to split into two groups. One
group of the tribe had to dig a lot of pits and mask them with brunches of the
trees and cover them with sand. The other group had to go and fetch the
survivors. They thought those white people would be their best dinner.
The people in the camp were worrying because some of them had to be selected to
go to the cannibals’ village. The four men finally were chosen. But it was
getting dark. It was very dangerous to move around in a strange place…however,
the men decided to move. It was a question of life and death. Rose was getting
worse. They took some sticks to protect themselves and set forward. It was a
very dark night. There was no moonshine. They could hear strange sounds around.
They could hardly see where they were moving. Some time passed. It seemed to
them they didn’t know which direction to go…
The next day survivors were awoken by muttering of many voices. They were surprised to see dark-skinned people standing round their camp and waiting for them to get up. The cannibals knew that the white meat was a very easy prey for them. The hardest part was taking victims to the cannibals’ village, because the whites usually were clumsy in the jungle and it would take a lot of time for them to reach the destination. But the cannibals knew that some small yellow stones made white people very agile. This must have some magic power on them. This was the experience from their meeting with the expedition of gold seekers.
The cannibals and survivors spent several minutes staring at each other. The poor campers were scared to death. But when the shaman discovered that there was a snake-bitten woman he ordered to give her antidote. Because he knew it was dangerous to eat poisonous meat. After the shaman healed Rose everyone felt relieved. It was no reason to be afraid anymore of natives who were so kind to them . . .
Chapter 5 (Sweden)
We were taken to the natives' village. When we arrived Rose was already feeling better. The natives gave us a cup of soup. That was the last thing we remembered before we all fell asleep.
We woke up
early in the morning, one by one. The sun was shining into our eyes. Probably
the natives had put something in the soup that had made us fall asleep. We were
seized with
panic because we realized that our hands were tied behind our backs. Nobody
dared to speak
because we didn't want to draw any attention.
Around us were a couple of natives dancing and singing and we could hear the sound of drums. Soon we understood what was going on. We were not invited to lunch. We were the lunch!!!
Just before we
were supposed to be boiled or something, the medicine man appeared from
nowhere. His voice was strong and powerful when he declared that the process
should come
to an end. – I have looked into their hearts, and I can tell they are not
evil. They mean us no harm! All the natives obeyed the medicine man immediately
and released us from the ropes.
We stayed in the village on the island. It was really fun and we learnt a lot. Me and John got our romantic vacation after all, even if it had started badly.
Two months
later a banana boat passed close to the island. They saw our signs and realized
that we were the missing passengers from S/S Midnight Star accident. So we said
good-bye
to our new friends and left them in peace again and went back home.
We had expected
a romantic, peaceful trip, but we got a wonderful adventure that we'll
never forget!
"As she sat in her office
on April Fool's Day, Sarah was thinking that somebody was pulling a cruel joke
on her. A close friend of her family, Detective Frank Taylor, had just told her
she was being accused of murder."
Whose murder was Sarah being accused of? Was she guilty? What had happened?

Chapter 1 (Lithuania)
"As she sat in her office
on April Fool's Day, Sarah was thinking that somebody was pulling a cruel joke
on her. A close friend of her family, Detective Frank Taylor, had just told her
she was being accused of murder."
Whose murder was Sarah being accused of? Was she guilty? What had happened?
It was a sunny morning on an early spring day. The snow was melting and water streams were flowing down the streets. An old man was trying to cross a street, but suddenly a new blue Jaguar car appeared up from the corner and hit the old man.
In half an hour’s trip Sarah finally reached the hospital and with horror in her face was looking for a doctor or nurse. A nurse on duty was a middle-aged woman. She looked at Sarah, who just came into the building and asked:
“Are you all right?”
“Where is my grandfather, Leonardo Brown?” asked Sarah.
“He is in the operation room, on the second floor.”
Sarah ran into a lift and the door closed.
The whole week of waiting had gone, but Sarah’s grandfather was still unconscious. After one month there was no progress, Leonardo Brown was still in coma.
One rainy night Sarah had a terrible dream: Her grandfather was in his wedding suite and he looked happy, but something was behind him. He asked Sarah to end his life, because he was in torment with pain.
The next morning Sarah kept thinking of that dream and finally came to the conclusion that euthanasia is the best way to solve this problem.
She drove to the hospital and while waiting for a lift she saw her grandfather’s accountant walking out of the lift. Her eyes wore a blind look. When Sarah entered into the ward the grandfather was dead.
Doctor Adolf Smith heard a scream and rushed into the ward. The smell of some specific medicine was in the air. There were two bodies lying: the patient on the bed and a beautiful woman unconscious on the floor. Immediately care was taken of them.
Hints to continue the
story:
The grandfather is alive.
Detective Taylor knew a lot.
A secret letter from abroad.
A lot of money on Sarah’s account.
Doctor and accountant’s love affair.
Chapter 2 (Sweden)
The two dead people were the doctor and his wife. Why were they murdered? Taylor believed that the accountant and Sarah had murdered the doctor and his wife for the money and then left for Cuba. Because they couldn't be found anywhere. It was a pretty sneaky plot but they had forgotten one thing. . .
The letter Sarah had got the previous week was still in her home. She had forgotten it on the desk drawer and it would with no great effort lead the detective to them. When they were close to the airport Sarah remembered it and urged the accountant to turn around and go to get it.
Meanwhile Taylor had just got the account extract and saw that Sarah had become rich a few days earlier. Taylor decided to go and have a look at Sarah´s house for clues why she would have done something like this.
Being as close
to the airport as Sarah and the accountant was made it easy for Taylor to arrive
first, even though none of them knew about each others´ plans for the time
being.
Taylor went inside and started searching for anything that would reveal where
Sarah was going. When heading towards the bedroom where the letter was he heard
a car pulling up outside the house. He took a look out of the windows and saw
her. Just seconds before they stormed into the house he had been hiding in the
bathroom beside the bedroom.
When Sarah went on to the bedroom and saw the letter she felt more relieved. After putting the letter in the purse she hurried out to the car again.
Taylor who had been hiding in the bedroom was right behind them. When they had got away from the house he went to his car and took off after them. He hadn´t tailed anyone for a while and the question about what was so important that Sarah would actually go back gnawed in his head.
Hints:
Detective Taylor makes a mistake
The letter contains the location where Sarah´s heading
Who could the accountant be?
The police are involved in the case
Chapter 3 (Norway)
Sarah was driving the car and the accountant was in the front seat, without saying a single word she turned the car to the highway. Taylor was observing all the movements of Sarah and the accountant while Taylor was sitting in his dashing Porsche. He was following them without knowing their destination. But soon he came to know that they were on the way to the airport.
On the way to airport, when Taylor was chasing them, suddenly Sarah turned the car into the petrol station to fill her car's fuel tank. In the meanwhile, the accountant went inside to pay the bill and to buy some coffee for themselves.
Without making any mistake Taylor went into the shop and was just behind the accountant when he was going to the washroom.
Taylor got that golden chance he was waiting for. Taylor locked the accountant in the washroom after making him unconscious with the help of chloroform which Taylor used to have with him during such missions.
Taylor jumped into Sarah's car and explained to her why he locked the accountant in the washroom. And finally he also told Sarah that he had been in love with her for many years. "Is that the reason you are following me?" asked Sarah, relieved, and started the car.
After driving through the Nevada dessert for some hours, Sarah realized that Taylor's car was right behind them. Taylor was sitting next to her, so it couldn't be him driving the car. That means, most likely, that the accountant had woken up, and taken off after them in the car, Taylor had left behind at the petrol station. They had a long drive ahead of them before they got to the airport, and they had to come up with a great solution to get away from the accountant.
That was easier said then done, when you are in a dessert and nowhere to hide. All they could do was to get straight to the airport.
When they arrived to the airport, the place was surrounded by police. Sarah panicked and turned the car around in the opposite direction. The accountant who was right behind her followed her car. The police found it strange that the two cars turned back in such a hurry. The police started to follow both cars with their sirens on.
Chapter 4 (Denmark)
Right after they had turned the car, the speed was reduced strongly. There was no more petrol for the engine and Sara and Frank Taylor had to stop the car.
As the car stopped so suddenly the car which followed them crashed into them. The accountant who was driving Frank Taylor’s Porsche was thrown through the windshield, and landed with his head in a cactus. He looked awful because his body was full of thorns.
Now the police arrived and surrounded them, there was not much to do. Taylor showed his badge so the police could see that he was a detective.
The accountant was so badly injured that he couldn’t be questioned by the police. He was taken to a hospital in Las Vegas.
The police arrested Sarah and Frank Taylor but after they had been questioned for some hours and lied about the man following them they were released on bail.
As both cars were wrecked in the accident Sarah and Frank Taylor stayed in the city to find out what to do.
Taylor wanted an explanation from Sarah, what was going on, and why was she running away?
Sarah didn’t
know what to do and realized that she had to tell her story to Frank Taylor.
Her grandfather had led a double life. He had been a member of The American
Mafia for many years. No one but Sarah knew about that. He was a powerful and
respectful man in the mafia world and was known as Big Daddy, his real name was
Leonardo Brown. His family were Italian. He asked her to bring a lot of money to
another member of the mafia in Las Vegas, money he had from traffic in drugs.
The money, that she had withdrawn from her bank account, and a letter were in
the envelope she had forgotten in her house, when she and the accountant were on
their way to the airport. The accountant had found out about the money and had
threatened her to give him the money and drive him to the airport. She was sure
that the accountant had killed her grandfather at the hospital, and when the
doctor and his wife surprised the accountant while he was killing her
grandfather, he had no choise but to kill them.
Sarah was now in great trouble. She was afraid what would happen to her when the
accountant was discharged from the hospital. Would he find her, and what would
he do to her? She still had the money.
After a long talk with Sarah, Frank Taylor realized that they couldn’t go to the police. They wouldn’t believe Sarah’s story. They would accuse her of complicity in the murder.
It was a great risk to run. They had to go to the hospital and arrest the accountant.
When they arrived at the hospital, they quickly went to the ward where the accountant should be, but there was no one in the room. The bed was still warm, he couldn’t have got very far. Sarah looked out of the window, and there he was, with bandage on his head running away from the hospital.
Hints:
How do they catch the accountant.
The explanation from the accountant and Sarah to the police.
Is Sarah acquitted.
Does the grandfather survive.
Palle, Sascha, Lissi, Jonas
Denmark
Chapter 5 (Portugal)
However the hospital security saw the accountant running away from the hospital, they went quickly for the car, after a few hours and a long pursuit they caught him
They went back to the hospital, Taylor asked him about why he was trying to run away and the accountant answered that he was affraid of Sarah. The detective urged him to explain the situation and Sarah said that they should let him go away, Taylor was very surprised with her request but unwillingly accepted.
The night fell,
Taylor asked Sarah to let him alone with his thoughts because he needed to think
about what had just happened. In order to clear his mind, he decided to have
dinner in a nice restaurant however when he got in the restaurant he had a huge
surprise...
In the same restaurant Sarah and the accountant were having dinner. They were
whispering, when suddenly Taylor saw Sarah handing an envelope to the
accountant. The detective suspected that it was the money. He approached slowly
to see better, the accountant opened the envelope and Taylor’s suspicion was
confirmed.
The detective handcuffed them, and they were taken to the police station where they were interrogated. The police asked them why they were lying and if they had something to do with the dead people at the hospital.
The accountant started sweating and in desperation confessed Sarah belonged to the American Mafia. He said that Sarah had recruited him to kill Leonardo Brown because Leonardo knew that Sarah was dealing with drugs and he was against it. Leonardo’s son had been a drug addict so he hated all business that was related to drugs. The accountant tried to ran over Leonardo but he escaped with life.
Later on, as the accountant didn’t kill him, Sarah went to the hospital and entered Leonardo’s room saying that she was Leonardo’s grand-daughter and tried to kill him. But when she was trying to do it, a doctor and his wife saw what she was doing to Leonardo. So Sarah had to kill them. As she did so much noise she had ran away from the hospital taking Leonardo in a wheel chair. She carried him to an isolated house in London.
Sarah was
speechless she only agreed that all was true. She had lied to everyone.
Meanwhile, in London, Taylor found Leonardo alive in an old cottage near the
river. Taylor took him to the Hospital. The old man asked where Sarah and the
accountant were, the detective urged him not to worry because they were in
prison paying for what they had done . . .
