The health and nutrition
of Mini- Europeans
Step
0/Introduction
Step 1
You have been
commissioned by an European healthcare committee to propose "the 10
commandments of child lifestyle and nutrition", the 10 key messages
you feel should be communicated to parents and careers on giving children
the best possible start to life.
With your group, decide what are the key health issues facing the under 12’s
in your community.
Compile your list and think of how you can justify/back up your ideas. Can
you find any information or statistics about this on the Internet?
Write your list of
commandments on the document that bears your country's name in the folder
called "National Input"
Remember: You need to
have completed this task by Friday afternoon, May 20th.
Step 2
The objective of this
step is to create one list containing the Ten Commandments which are going
to be used in the European Campaign.
As you know, this
Committee consists of partners in four European countries: Spain, Romania,
Norway, and England. Each country has set up a list of ten
"commandments" they think should be on the list.
The four different lists have now joined in one document, and the
commandments have been loosely organized according to theme. They have
also been marked with a special code. You find the document in the folder
named "National Input", but you can also use this link.
Having read this document, your group needs to rethink which you feel are
the top ten health and lifestyle messages for the parents of under 12’s
across Europe. First you discuss this face to face in your own group.
When your group has reached a decision, you are ready to write in a new
document you will find in the folder called "Final Selections".
Open the document that bears the name of your country. In the text area,
write the code number of each commandment you have chosen, and the whole
commandment after that. You may find you want use TWO of the commandments
listed under one theme as ONE commandment. You are allowed to do so, but
you must indicate the code numbers of both sentences.
Deadline: Friday
afternoon, May 27th.
Step 3
Final
decision on commandments!
Each group has now selected among the 40 commandments presented in
Step 1, the 10 they think are most important. Your new selections have
been put together into a new document, called "Selection summary",
but as you can see, there is still a job to do, because the groups have to
agree on a list of only 10 commandments.
How can you do this?
First you need to discuss within your own group. Then you can use the
mail list called DISCUSSION (remember to use your country's username and
password). Read the comments from the other groups and add your own.
Discuss again within your group. Which commandments can be deleted from
the list, so that the final list can be limited to 10 commandments?
When you have reached
a decision in your group...
... you write it down in the document bearing you country's name in
the subfolder called "Final decisions", which you will find in
the folder "03_Final selections".
The Spanish group, which
will be the last group on line, will write the final document, based on
the decisions taken by the four groups. This document, called "The 10
commandments", needs to be written before 6 p.m. on Saturday, June
4th.
Step 4
Congratulations! The
European Healthcare commission has accepted your final “Ten Commandments”
list.
They have now asked you
to create a publicity campaign which will be used to communicate these
extremely important messages on health and lifestyle to the adult
population of your region.
Among the ten commandments presented on the final list, you can now
concentrate on the three commandments that are most relevant to the people
of your area. Decide with your group how you feel you could get your
message across most successfully to the parents and careers of the under 12’s
in your particular region. Decide also how long your campaign will be.
Your task in this step is to create three different documents in the
folder "Campaign Presentations": A campaign text
presentation, a
PowerPoint presentation and
a
budget. Name the documents "(country name)_text", "(country name)_ppt", "(country
name)_budget".
First: Describe your
campaign in a short document.
Now you must prepare a
budget...
You will receive €
10.000 from the European Healthcare commission, but you need to prepare a
detailed budget for your campaign. To help you in this process, you have
been given a list
of prices for the promotional activities available. Your budget can be
presented as an Excel or a Word document.
... and a Power Point
presentation
Once you have decided on
the elements of your campaign, and set up a budget, you need to create a
three slide PowerPoint presentation which demonstrates the following:
* Your three chosen commandments
* Your target group for the campaign
* Your marketing activities.
If possible, add to all three slides an explanation about why you have
arrived at these particular decisions.
Your presentation, and those of the other national committees, will be
sent to the European commission. It may be a good idea to keep in touch
with the other national committees , so that you can get ideas and help
from each other. Upload your PowerPoint file to the folder called “Campaign
Presentations”.
Deadline for this step:
Friday afternoon, June 10th.
Step 5
Well done! Now it is time
to evaluate your work.
First we would like you
to read all the campaign presentations. Then you can use the mail list
called "Evaluations" to
1) give your opinion about the whole simulation
2) give 5, 3 or 1 point to the other groups' campaigns. Let's see who is
the winner!
Deadline for this step:
June 24th.

Health and Care - Round 2
Longevity in Europe
Step 1
You are four groups in the UK, Spain, Romania and Norway that are going to
cooperate on a project concerning views on longevity. Together you are
going to produce a collection of theories and myths about longevity.
Before you start doing
the tasks for step 1, please fill in the evaluation sheet 1
for participants. The tutors fill in sheet 1
for tutors.
-
Click on the link to
the evaluation sheet you need to fill in (tutor or participant)
-
Save the document to your hard-disk, and add your name to the name of
the document
-
Fill in the form and save.
-
Upload it to the subfolder in the Evaluation folder that bears the name
of your country.
When you have done this, you can go on reading the instruction for the
first task in step one.
Deadline for step 1: In the afternoon Tuesday May 9.
Tasks for step 1
First task
An important factor in ensuring successful cooperation in an international
project group is that the participants get to know each other, therefore
your first task is to communicate and to get to know each other better.
This will be the main task in step 1.
-
Group UK makes an interview and then a presentation of each of the
participants from group RO1
-
Group RO1 makes an interview and a presentation of each of the
participants from group NO
-
Group NO makes an interview and a presentation of each of the
participants from group ES
-
Group ES makes an interview and a presentation of each of the
participants from the group RO2
-
Group RO2 makes an interview and a presentation of each of the
participants from group UK
-
Write a
presentation of the group that you have been assigned according
to the plan and upload the group presentation in the document that bears
the name of the group you have been assigned in the folder called Group_profile. Each group presentation should include at least this
information for each group member: • Name and age • Profession and work tasks and responsibilities
• Interests, spare time activities Whilst doing this, each group must ensure that they give information about
their own group members to the group that will make a presentation about
them. Use the mail conference "Presentations" for this. You can upload
photos of your group in a common folder called Group_pictures and in a
sub-folder that bears the name of your group. Here you can upload groups
pictures and individual photos and make them available for the group that
is making the presentation of your group. The name of each individual
photo must be name_family name.
-
Each group reads the presentation that has been written about them and
comments on errors and information that needs to be clarified or modified.
When you have accomplished this task, you can go on to
task 2.
Second task
Make a short description of the situation in your country concerning the
average duration of life for men and women, what is considered the most
serious threats to the general health of the population in your country
and what is the current field of interest when it comes to lifestyle and
health related topics. Upload your description in the document that bears
the name of your group in the folder called
"Health_and_life". Use the
mail conference “Discussion” if you have questions and comments to the
other groups on this.
Deadline: In the afternoon Tuesday May 9.
Please also use the mail conference “Debriefing” to tell the others groups
what you think about the work that you have been doing. Please ensure that
you have approximately 15 minutes left for this at the end of the day.
Step 2
Health, lifestyle and how to live a long and happy life are major issues
being discussed intensely in most European societies. All countries and
cultures have ideas of what is believed to lead to a long life, what will
increase the quality of you life, and what is supposed to ruin your health
and lead to a possible early death. Based on this topic, a project on
myths about longevity has been launched. The European Committee of General
Well-being and Longevity (ECOWAL) has initiated a project to collect the
theories and myths about longevity in different countries in order to
establish if there are big differences between the countries on these
issues. Before the real project is launched, the Committee wants to run a
smaller test project with UK, Romania, Spain and Norway. All countries and
cultures have ideas of what is believed to contribute to longevity and
these four countries are considered to be quite different. A pilot project
with the mentioned countries should produce some interesting findings.
There are no evaluation sheets this week.
Tasks for step 2
Task 1
Each group presents
5 theories based on scientific research about what is
supposed to lead to longevity. Each theory should be expressed shortly,
but you are asked to add an explication/documentation as to why this
theory is supposed to lead to longevity. You may also add links to
websites in English to back up your explanation/documentation.
You can use a maximum of 3 photos to illustrate your theories but all the
photos have to be relevant to the theories they are supposed to
illustrate.
Post your theories in the document that bears the name of your group in
the folder "Theories".
Task 2
Each group presents
5 myths about what leads to longevity based on
traditions, superstition, folklore and other non-scientific and irrational
backgrounds. Each myth should be expressed shortly, but you are asked to
add an explanation as to why this myth is/was supposed to lead to
longevity and also some information as to the origin of the myths, if
possible. You can also add links to websites in English if you want to.
You can use a maximum of 3 photos to illustrate your myths. All the photos
have to be relevant to the myths they are supposed to illustrate.
Post your myths in the document that bears the name of your group in the
folder “Myths”.
Deadline: In the afternoon Tuesday May 16.
Please also use the mail conference Debriefing to tell the others groups
what you think about the work you have been doing. Please see to it that
you have approximately 15 minutes left for this at the end of the day.
Step 3
The ECOWAL committee has
read the total of 25 theories and 25 myths with great interest. The
committee was delighted to discover the great variety that exists. The
Committee has now decided to publish a selection of the theories and myths
found in the different countries but it considers 25 theories and and 25
myths will be too many. Therefore the Committee has asked the groups in
the pilot project to reduce the number of myths to a more reasonable
number.
At the end of the day, please fill in the evaluation sheet 3
for participants. The tutors fill in sheet 3
for tutors. The evaluation sheets can be found in the folder "Evaluation".
Tasks for step 3
Negotiations . . .
In this step, there will be two tasks for you. You will have to work on
the two tasks at the same time but in different mail conferences.
The theories
In this step you are asked to reduce the number of theories from 25 to 17.
To do this, you have to read through the national documents with the
theories that were created last week. Then you have to negotiate with the
other groups which 17 theories will be in the final selection. You can
agree to put together two of the theories to one theory if they are very
similar to each other, but be careful to use the national code of the
theories (for example: NO2 + RO1_4). You can also reduce the number of
theories by taking some theories away (again: use the national codes).
Criteria for the selection of the 17 theories to be published:
Use the mail conference
“Negotiation_theories” for this negotiation. Please remember to indicate
in the subject line which theory (-ies) you are discussing.
The myths
You are also asked to reduce the number of crazy myths from 25 to 17 and
you have to read through the national documents with myths from last week
and negotiate with the other groups to do this. Through negotiations with
the other groups you can agree on putting together two myths to one myth
or you can take myths away. Remember always to indicate the national codes
of the myths.
Criteria for the selection of the 17 crazy myths to be published:
Use the mail conference “Negotiation_myths” for this negotiation. Please
remember to indicate in the subject line which myth (-s) you are
discussing.
Final selection of theories and myths
Both mail conferences will be closed at 14.00 p.m. (CET) and one group
will be assigned the task of summarizing the remaining 17 theories in the
document "Final_selection" in the folder “Theories”.
Another group will be assigned the task of summarizing the remaining 17
myths in the document "Final_selection" in the folder “Myths”. The mail
conferences will be opened again at 15.00 p.m. (CET).
Hopefully you have
enjoyed yourselves and are not completely exhausted by the end of the day
. . .
Deadline: In the
afternoon Tuesday May 23.
Please also use the mail
conference Debriefing to tell the others groups what you think about the
work you have been doing. Please see to it that you have approximately 15
minutes left for this at the end of the day.
Step 4
The ECOWAT committee is
pleased to see to which extent the groups are able to collaborate and
agree in a short time on the results of step 3 and to see that there are
so many similarities especially in the theories, and wants the groups to
make a presentation of some of the theories and myths at the annual
European Longevity Conference. For the ECOWAT committee to receive funding
to implement the main project after this pilot project, it is important
that the presentations are creative and persuasive.
There are no
evaluation sheets this week.
Task for step 4
In this step you are
going to make a PowerPoint presentation of theories and myths.
-
Please read the
criteria below carefully:
Each group is asked to make a PowerPoint presentations with 3 slides
-
The PowerPoint
presentation must appear as a thematic whole: there must be coherence, a
thematic link, between the theories and myths you choose and also
between the 3 slides you create in your PowerPoint presentation
-
Each slide should
contain as a minimum 1 theory or myth and as a maximum 3 theories or
myths but the 3 slides together can not contain more than totally 7
theories or myths.
-
You can select your
theories and myths freely in the two final selection lists from step 3
and you can also combine theories and myths as you like in your
PowerPoint presentation and also in each single slide
-
Each slide should have
at least one picture
Use the mail conference
"PowerPoint" if you need to consult the other groups. Upload your
presentation in the folder called “PowerPoint” and put the name of your
group on your presentation (For example: PowerPoint_UK).
Explain in a separate document to the other groups
what is the theme for
your PowerPoint presentation and why you have chosen this theme and the
particular theories and/or myths. Use the document that bears the name of
your group_theme (for example NO_theme) in the folder “PowerPoint” for
this. Use the mail conference “PowerPoint” if you have questions and
comments about the other groups’ PowerPoint presentations or explanations.
Enjoy your work with
the PowerPoint . . .
Deadline: In the
afternoon Tuesday May 30
Please also use
the mail conference Debriefing to tell the others groups what you think
about the work you have been doing. Please see to it that you have
approximately 15 minutes left for this at the end of the day.
Step 5
The ECOWAL committee has
now high hopes of receiving funding for launching the big European project
on theories and myths about health and longevity. The Committee is so
pleased with the work done in the pilot project that in order to keep up
the motivation for this kind of work, it has decided to give some well
deserved awards to the groups who participated in the pilot project. But
the groups will have to
compete to receive an award.
At the end of the day,
please fill in the
evaluation sheet 5
for participants. The tutors fill in sheet 5
for tutors. The evaluation sheets can be found in the folder "Evaluation".
Please post your evaluation sheets in this folder and in the subfolder
that bears the name of your group.
Tasks for step 5
There are 4 different kinds of competitions for you in this step. Please
post your votes in mail conference that bears the name of your group, for
example Vote_UK.
-
Award for the Best
Documented Theory
Examine the the final selection of
theories (but not your own unless it has been merged with an other
group's suggestion) and their justifications from step 2 and agree on
which theory you will award 7 points to (1st place), which one you will
award 5 to (2nd place) and which you will award 2 points to (3rd place).
You can only give points to 3 theories. You should award your points
according to how good you find the theories in terms of being a well
explained or documented theory, based on medical or scientific facts.
Please also write a short explanation justifying your vote.
-
The Craziest and Most
Unbelievable Myth
Examine the final selection of myths (but
not your own unless it has been merged with an other group's suggestion)
and their justifications from step 2 and find out which myth you will
award 7 points to (1st place), which you will award 5 to (2nd place) and
which you will award 2 to (3rd place). You can only give points to 3
myths. Give your points according to how good you find the myths in
terms of being completely irrational and crazy.
-
Award for the Best
Presentation
Examine the PowerPoint presentations (but
not your own) and agree on which one you will award 7 points to (1st
place), which one you will award 5 points to (2nd place) and which you
will award 2 points to (3rd place). The criteria are: that the
presentation is the most creative, attractive, aesthetic and original
and at the same time representative for the myths it presents and loyal
to the criteria stated in step 4. A last criterium is that it has a good
explanation as to why these theories and myths were chosen.
-
Award for the Best
Single Photo to illustrate the Theories and Myths.
Examine the photos used in the PowerPoint
presentations (not your own) and descriptions of theories and myths (not
your own) closely and agree on which photo you will award 7 points to
(1st place), which one you will award 5 to (2nd place) and which you
will award 2 to (3rd place). You can only give points to 3 photos.
Remember: You need to
have completed this task by Tuesday afternoon, June 6.
Please also use the mail
conference “Debriefing” to tell the other groups what you think about the
work you have been doing. Please see to it that you have approximately 15
minutes left for this at the end of the day.

Tourism and Accommodation - Round
1
European bids
Step 0
You are the five groups in the UK, Spain, Romania and Norway that are
going to cooperate on a project on developing tourism. Together you are
going to develop a plan for tourism and apply for a grant from the
European Union for your project plan.
Each group will describe
an area of their choice in their own country. Since one of the aims of
this tourism project is to increase employability in an area which needs
alternative and additional work places to the more traditional ones, you
are asked to choose an area which is not already an established tourist
resort.
Tasks for step 0:
Make a
presentation of your group with pictures
Choose an area in your
country that you would like to develop for tourism. Describe it in terms
of geography, climate, population etc and what it can offer to tourists.
Write your description in the document that bears your group’s name in the
folder called "Area description"
Remember: You need to
have completed this task by:
Norwegian group: Friday afternoon, October 28.
All the other groups: Friday afternoon, November 4
At the end of the day, if
you like, you can write some words in your group’s logbook about how your
day has been.
There is also a mail conference called Debriefing where you can tell the
others groups what you think about the work you are doing.
Step 1
A group of 10 European people on a
teambuilding trip are coming to the areas you have chosen in the UK, Spain,
Romania and Norway. They are going to stay for 4 days in your area and you
are to plan 6 activities for this group. This group is coming to your
areas to do teambuilding activities so you have to plan suitable
activities for them.
Here is some information about your target group that is coming to your
areas:
They are between 18 and 35 years old, they are people who like to do rough
things like participating in outdoor activities and learning about
traditional ways of living, but they are also open-minded young people and
do not mind surprises. They are also interested in the environment and
they want to have an environmental profile to their teambuilding trip.
Tasks for step 1
Decide on the 6 activities that you want the teambuilding group to
participate in. Describe them in as much detail as possible and present
them in a document that bears your group’s name in the folder called “Activities”.
Remember: You need to have completed
this task by:
Friday afternoon, November 11
At the end of the day, if you like, you can write some words in your
group’s logbook about how your day has been.
There is also a mail conference called Debriefing where you can tell the
others groups what you think about the work you are doing.
This week there are no evaluation sheets to be filled in.
Step 2
The European Commission has announced a reduction in the planned budget
for this project and cannot support all the activities you have planned.
The Commission also wants a stronger focus on environmentally friendly
activities and on the other criteria listed below. The Commission kindly
asks you to reduce the total number of activities by 8 so that you end up
with 22 activities in total.
Task:
Read and study all the proposed
activities and discuss and negotiate with the other groups which 8
activities should be removed.
Since you (the groups) are working with this on two different days, you
will have to organize the work in this way:
The groups in the UK and in Romania: You will have to reduce the
activities of your two countries by a total of 5. You will have to decide
which activities should be removed through discussions and negotiations
with each other.
The groups in Spain and Norway: You will have to reduce your activities by
a total of 3. You will have to decide which activities should be removed
through discussions and negotiations with each other.
The activities have to be reduced according to one or more of these
critera:
• The least environmental friendly
• The least suited for team-building activities
• Not at all corresponding to the interest of the group
• Not loyal enough to the initial description of the area
• Not too much similarity in the activites
If you find it necessary, please discuss with the other groups how to make
the remaining activities more environmentally friendly, more suited for
teambuilding, more in accordance with the interests of the groups and the
initial description of the area.
Please post your documents in the folder called Reduction and in the
subfolder that bears the name of your group. There is a mail conference
called Discussion that you can use for this task.
Remember: You need to have completed this task by:
Groups in Romania and UK: By Monday afternoon, November 14
Groups in Spain and Norway; By Wednesday afternoon, November 16
At the end of the day, if you like, you can write some words in your
group’s logbook about how your day has been.
There is also a mail conference called Debriefing where you can tell the
others groups what you think about the work you are doing.
Please fill in the evaluation sheets by the end of the day: Eval_02_part
and Eval_02_tutor. You find them in the Evaluation folder.
Step 3
The Commission has asked each group to make a
PowerPoint presentation
where they present 3 of the remaining team-building activities. One of the
reasons behind this request is that such a presentation will make it
easier for the Commission to grasp the idea in this project and also to
compare this tourism project to other, similar projects being currently
developed. In order to ensure an objective and sober presentation of the
activities, the Commission ask the groups to make a presentation of the
activities of one of the other groups instead of their own activities.
The Commission also plans to give a prize for the best presentation as
well for the best tourism plan.
Tasks for step 3:
You are asked to make a power point presentation of 3 of the
activities that another group has created. Make no more than one slide per
activity and each slide must include a photo. The rest of the content is
up to the groups. The creation of power point presentation will go like
this:
UK: choose 2 of Unirea’s (RO) and 2 of Edrocast’s (RO) activities
RO Edrocast: choose 3 of UK’s activities
RO Unirea: choose 3 of UK’s activites
SP: choose 3 of NO’s activities
NO: choose 3 of SP’s activities
Please use the mail conference called Power_point to discuss with the
other groups:
If there are more than 3 remaining activities, discuss which activities
are to be presented
Ask for clarifications as to what the activities are about
Ask for and give guidelines as to what you would like to include in the
Power point presentation
Please post your documents in the folder called Power_point and in the
subfolder that bears the name of your group.
Remember: You need to have completed this task by:
Groups in Romania and UK: By Monday afternoon, November 21
Groups in Spain and Norway; By Wednesday afternoon, November 23
There is also a mail conference called Debriefing where you can tell the
others groups what you think about the work you are doing.
At the end of the day, if you like, you can write some words in your
group’s logbook about how your day has been.
Step 4
You have done very well!
The Commission is very pleased with your work and you will receive the
grant. In addition, the Commission wants to award some prizes and you will
find the criteria below.
There are 3 different kinds of competitions for you in this step:
Two for the activities that are presented in the power point presentation
(by another group)
One for the power point presentations you have created.
Tasks for step 4:
You are now asked
to read through and compare the activities that can be found in the power
point presentations. A special message to Edrocast and Unirea: Since both
of you have only had 2 of your activities presented by the UK group, both
of you are asked to identify a third activity to join the competitions
number 1 and 2. Please tell which activity you have selected in the "Voting"
mail conference and please do it as soon as possible when you start
working on Monday.
You are also going to examine the power point presentations very closely.
The voting will be secret, please put your vote in the "Vote" mail
conference with the name of your group on it and please explain your
voting. You cannot give points for your own activities.
Use the mail conference called “Voting” for general discussion.
These are the rules
and criteria for the competition:
Competition number 1 - Comparing activities:
Examine all the activities (but not your own) and find out which activity
will get your 7 points (best score), which one will get 5 (2nd place) and
which will get 2 (3rd place). You can only give points to three activities.
You give points according to how good you find the activities in terms of
environmental friendliness.
Please write a short explanation justifying your vote. In this competition
you will have to go back to the original description of the activities in
the folder “Activities” and have a closer look at them.
Competition number 2
- Comparing activities:
Examine all the activities (but not your own) and find out which activity
will get your 7 points (best score), which one will get 5 (2nd place) and
which will get 2 (3rd place). You can only give points to three activities.
You give points according to how good you find the activities in terms of
teambuilding.
Please write a short
explanation justifying your vote. In this competition you will have to go
back to the original description of the activities in the folder
“Activities” and have a closer look at them.
Competition number 3
- Comparing Powerpoint presentations:
Give 7 (the best score), 5 or 2 points to the power point presentation you
think are the best one and please write a short explanation justifying
your choice. The criteria for this competition are that the presentation
is the most creative, attractive, esthetical, original and the same
time representative for the activities it presents. It should also be
according to the criteria for the power point presentations.
There will be 3 winners
in this competition and they will be announced on this Telsi environment
as soon as the results are ready.
Remember: You have to complete this task by:
Groups in the UK and Romania: By Monday afternoon, November 28
Groups in Spain and Norway: By Wednesday afternoon, November 30
At the end of the day, if you like, you can write some words in your
group’s logbook about how your day has been.
There is also a mail conference called Debriefing where you can tell the
others groups what you think about the work you are doing.
Please fill in the evaluation sheets by the end of the day: Eval_04_part
and Eval_04_tutor. You find them in the Evaluation folder.

for Step 1 need to be completed by late afternoon on Wednesday, March 1st.
Step 1, task 1:
One important factor to ensure successful cooperation in an international
project group is that the participants get to know each other, therefore
your first task is to communicate and get to know each other.
• Group NO makes an interview and then a presentation of the group UK
• Group UK makes an interview and a presentation of the group ES
• Group ES makes an interview and a presentation of the group RO2 (Unirea)
• Group RO2 (Unirea) makes an interview and a presentation of the group NO
-
Write a presentation of the group that you have been assigned according
to the plan in a document that bears the name of your group in the folder
called "Presentations". Each group presentation should include at least
this information for each group member:
While doing this, the groups must also see to that they give information
of its own group members to the group that will make a presentation of
them. Use the mail conference "Presentations" for this. You can upload pictures of your group in a common folder, "Group_photos"
and in a sub-folder that bears the name of your group. Here you can upload
group pictures and individual pictures and make them available for the
group that are making the presentation of your group. The name of each
individual photo must be name_family name.
-
Each group read the presentation that has been written about them and
comment upon errors and information that needs to be clarified and
modified.
-
Read the group presentations thoroughly. Try to remember who is who.
Get to know the people in the other groups. During the whole project
period you should have communicated with at least one person (but more if
you like)from each of the other groups on her or his interests.
After you have completed this task, you can go on to Task 2.
But remember: Task 1 is the most important one in this step! You should be
working with this one at least until lunch!
Step 1, task 2
Choose an area in your country that you would like to further develop for
tourism. Describe it by briefly answering the questions below:
-
Geography: Where
exactly is it and what is the landscape like (lakes, forests, mountains
etc)?
-
Climate: What is the
climate like – winter, summer, dry weather or rainy etc.
-
Population: How many
people live in this area?
-
Economical life:
Industrial area, agricultural area or others?
-
Tourism: What is the
potential for tourism?
You can illustrate your
document by uploading maximum two pictures from the area.
Write your area description in the document that bears the name of your
group in the folder called "Area description".
Remember: The first task is more important than the second task.
Step 2
A group of 10 Europeans are coming on a round trip to the areas you have
chosen in the UK, Romania, Spain and Norway. They will stay for 3 days in
each area and you have to plan 5 activities for this group. The aim for
the roundtrip is to strengthen the group feeling within the group of the
10 Europeans. In order to achieve this, you have to plan 5 activities
suitable for teambuilding for the group.
Here is some information about the target group that is coming to your
area:
They are between 18 and 35 years old, they are people who like to do rough
and adventurous things, like outdoor activities, learning about
traditional ways of living by doing it, but they are also open-minded and
like surprises. They are also interested in environment and want to have
an environmental profile to their teambuilding trip.
There are no evaluation sheets this week.
Tasks for step 2
-
Decide on the 5 activities you want
the teambuilding group to participate in from what you know about this
group. The 5 activities have to be spread over the 3 days the group is
staying. Describe the activities in as much detail as possible and
present them in a document that bears your group’s name in the folder
called “Activities”.
-
Use maximum 2 photos per activity.
-
Make the budget (in euros) for the day
you think will the most expensive one. Upload your budget, it can be an
excel sheet or a table in Word, in the subfolder "zBudgets" in the "Activities"
folder. Call your document "Budget_ES", Budget_RO_Edrocast etc.
There is a mail conference called
“Debriefing” where you can tell the others groups what you think about the
work you have been doing. Please see to it that you have approximately 15
minutes left for this at the end of the day.
You need to have completed this task
by Wednesday afternoon, March 8
Step 3
The European Commission has announced a reduction in the planned
budget for this project and cannot support all the 25 activities you have
planned. The Commission also wants a stronger focus on environmentally
friendly activities and on the other criteria listed below to support the
tourism plan. The Commission wants you to decide on the reduction
yourselves and kindly ask you to reduce the total number of activities by
8 so that you end up with 17 in total.
At the end of the day,
please fill in the evaluation sheet 3 for participants. The tutors
fill in sheet 3 for tutors.
Tasks for step 3:
Read all the proposed activities thoroughly. Discuss and negotiate
with the other groups which 8 activities should be removed. You are
supposed to use good argumentation related to the criteria listed below to
justify why certain activities to be removed. The groups that own the
attacked activities are supposed to use equally good argumentation about
the reasons why their activities should be kept. Try to trade activities
against activities. Use your creativity to this purpose as well. Please
use the mail conference “Discussion” for the discussions and negotiations.
The activities have to be
reduced according to one or more of these criteria:
-
The least
environmentally friendly
-
The least suited for
team-building activities
-
Not at all
corresponding with the interests of the teambuilding group
-
Not loyal enough to
the initial description of the area
-
Too much similarity in
the activities
-
The one day budget, is
it good value for money? (see table Cost_of_living for
help)
Important:
At 2pm GMT
you will no longer have access to the “Discussion” mail conference. One of
the groups will be assigned the task to summarize the output of the
discussion and to make a list of the 8 activities that have been mentioned
most frequently as activities that should be left out. They will make sure
that each group has a minimum of 2 activities left of their initial 5. The
list of
rejected activities will be published in a document called
“Left_out” in the folder “Reduction”. This list will be ready at 3pm GMT.
When you have read the list, you can continue the discussion, is for
example the list representative of the previous discussion?
Please make a summary of the activities you have left in the document that
bears the name of your group in the folder "Reduction".
Remember: You need to
have completed this task by Wednesday afternoon, March 15
Please also use the
mail conference Debriefing to tell the others groups what you think
about the work you have been doing. Please see to it that you have
approximately 15 minutes left for this at the end of the day.
Step 4
The Commission asks each
group to make a power point presentation where they present 2 of the
remaining team-building activities so that the Commission can more easily
compare this tourism project to other, similar development projects. In
order to ensure an objective and sober presentation of the activities, the
Commission asks the groups to make a Power Point presentation of the
activities created by one of the other groups instead of their own
activities.
There will be a prize for the best presentation as well for the best
tourism plan.
There are no
evaluation sheets this week
Tasks for step 4:
You are asked to
make a Power Point presentation of 2 of the activities that another group
has created, see the document "Final decision". in the folder "Reduction".
Make no more than one slide per activity and each slide must include a
photo. The rest of the content is up to the groups. You will have to
communicate to decide on which 2 activities should be included in the
power point presentation and preferably also to clarify as what the
activities are about, guidelines etc.
The creation of power point presentations will go like this:
-
RO_Edrocast makes a
Power Point presentation of ES's activities
-
NO makes a Power Point
presentation of RO_Edrocast’s activities.
-
RO_Unirea makes a
Power Point presentation of UK’s activities
-
UK makes a Power Point
presentation of RO_Unirea's activities
-
ES makes a Power Point
presentation of NO’s activities
Use the mail conference “Power_Point” for communication.
Additional task:
To each slide you are going to make notes for the presentation of the
activities, use the facilty in Power Point that allows you to write
notes.
And remember: The Commission needs to be convinced so you have to sell
these activities. Use your creativity!
Present your power point presentations in a document that bears your
group’s name in the folder called “Power_Point”.
Remember: You need to
have completed this task by Wednesday afternoon, March 22
Please also use the mail
conference "Debriefing" to tell the others groups what you think about the
work you have been doing. Please see to it that you have approximately 15
minutes left for this at the end of the day.
Step 5
You have done very well! The
Commission is very pleased with your work and you will receive the grant.
In addition, The Commission wants to award you some prizes and you will
find the criteria below.
At the end of the day,
please fill in the evaluation sheet 5 for participants. The
tutors fill in sheet 5 for tutors. The evaluation sheets can
be found in the folder “Evaluation”.
Tasks for step 5:
There are 4 different
